Worldwide calls to end genocide in Gaza are not just a regional matter

Protests for Gaza

Fernando Guevara writes:

It is not just Palestinians protesting, although the worldwide demonstrations, sit-ins, shut-downs and other mass protests are focusing on a ceasefire now, in the genocide that Israel has been committing against the entire Palestinian population for over 75 years. Groups that the militarised media have tried to turn against one another for a very long time are rising up shoulder to shoulder everywhere in the world.

Over time, extreme financial greed and extreme greed for cruel domination of racialised populations have manifested themselves in colonialism, genocide, slavery and other perverse ”civilisations”. One example is the colonial, genocidal project of America, which was called Manifest Destiny, and sometimes described as the ”White Man’s Burden” to civilise lesser (racialised) populations. These populations consisted of persons whom the British had occupied; stolen and enslaved; or simply cleared from the land. Whether the actual intent was to kill the racialised population (in order to steal everything they had) or to enslave or dispossess them for life, the value of their own lives was stolen from them.

In order to carry out such projects, the coloniser must completely dehumanise the ”lesser race”, first in their own minds (in order to be able to carry out the acts), and also in the minds of the rest of the population (to get the general public to sustain the system).

One can discuss who controls whom in the current USA/Israel/NATO/Western war constellation, but I believe that it is more useful to see it as one beast with many heads and greedy fists. This war industry has merged itself with the Zionist ideology (this happened over 100 years ago), and has had its awful culmination in the Israeli project, the wars in the ”Middle East” and other horrors that we are intended to understand as completely separate ”conflicts”. Corporate media and other propaganda outlets manage the dehumanisation (of Palestinians, black people, Native Americans/First Nations, Muslims, Arabs, etc.).

I see Israel not so much as a country, but as the world’s most organised terror organisation that has stolen territory. By the corporate joint media of the mentioned war constellation, Israel is presented as the innocent, attacked victim that must be protected. With the aid of the Zionist ideology, as well as with what Norman Finkelstein has aptly called the “Holocaust Industry” (exploitation of Jewish suffering in the Nazi genocide), as its main ideological weapons, the war constellation is attempting to expand Israel, territorially as well as in our minds. To sustain the project, the war constellation uses Jews as a human shield against criticism and attack.

It takes a sizeable majority to change a system that is deeply entrenched in the ruling order and that is sustained by a cruel industrialised war-machine. But the media’s desperate attempts to polarise and rule are cracking at the seems. They are bursting. The desperate escalation of horrors and the abandoning of all pretence of humanitarian ideals indicate that the powers that be know they are losing. Groups – no matter how disingenuously distinguished and separated to start with – that the media have tried to polarise are standing up together.

Tragically, it has taken much too long for a sizeable enough public to react against the Israeli experiment, because of the industrialised occupation of our minds, throughout our educational captivity. Surreal horror scenarios of industrialised cruelty have been playing out before our eyes, but it is only recently that we have converged enough to say on a worldwide scale: NOT IN OUR NAMES.

Never in our known history have we seen protest this widespread. At the heart and core of it, the global uprising is a call for ending racialised hierarchies, colonialism and inequality.

It is not a regional matter. Within every ethnicity, nationality and creed, the divide between what decent people want and how that is represented by their governments is now being exposed. It seems that hundreds of millions of people are out in the streets to put their governments on notice that racism and apartheid can no longer be done in their names.

But is it working? Why would governments care what people say in the streets? Well, they will have to when their industrialised oppression faces so much pressure from below that even their high-tech weapons arsenals, surveillance, and and prison industries cannot hide it. Governments face the very real threat that people will refuse to serve their interests.

The governments’ goal, of course, is to eradicate all resistance (does this sound familiar?). But to do that they will have to silence us all. However, it is not only Hamas that is fighting for the Palestinians. It is not only the Palestinians fighting for the Palestinians. It is the world fighting for the Palestinians, and it is the world fighting for its own humanity.

The cat is out of the bag, and it won’t go back in. And the rats will be leaving the sinking ship. It is not possible to know how long it will take, but the end of the tragic Zionist/Israel project is approaching.
