Rally at City Chambers to mark the outcome at 4pm Tuesday 30 August

Pete Gregson writes:

The Edinburgh-Gaza twinning petition is now formally listed on the agenda for the Policy Committee meeting of Tuesday 30 August

Twinning is on the agenda as Item 7.2; details are on pages 71 to 74 of the council reports pack.

Deputations, if allowed, will be taken first at 10am. At least the following are expected: from the mayor of Gaza; the director of Gaza Sky Geeks; the manager of Take my Hand children’s education centre at Jamalya refugee camp; the vice-chair of the Dundee-Nablus Twinning Association; and the convenor of the Derby and Derbyshire Friends of Hebron. There may be Zionist ones too.

Then, probably at about 11am, the council will deal with the first items on the agenda, so it may not get to item 7.2 for another 30 minutes. As the meeting takes place, the media will be able to see everything because the whole meeting will be webcast. After the meeting has finished the webcast will be archived and continue to be available to the public, so if you are busy at the time the meeting, you can watch the video afterwards, when it suits you.

Please come along to the rally after the decision is announced. The rally will take place at 4pm at the City Chambers quad on Tuesday 30n August, on the Royal Mile, opposite St Giles Cathedral. Whether we win or lose, we expect you will want a story, so the idea is to give you something for the news that day. The rally will last no more than one hour. The High Street is full of tourists, but in the Chambers quad there is lots of space. We will have Palestinian flags and banners. At the rally, we of the Edina-Gaza Twinning Association, will be seeking to get more websites built in Gaza, with new flyers to give out. We will have badges too. See example flyer below.
