US celebrities call for boycott of Israel

Several high profile American actors have called for the academic and cultural boycott of Israel, the Jewish news website JNS reported.

Actors Danny Glover and Grace Lee Boggs, and 10 others, issued a statement condemning the screening in Israel, without permission, of the film “American Revolutionary: The Evolution of Grace Lee Boggs”.

The statement said: “We stand in solidarity with the people of Palestine, and support their call for cultural and academic boycott of Israel”, and it expresses shock at the unauthorized screening of the film at the DocAviv festival in Tel Aviv on 13 and 15 May.

“We immediately took action to have the film withdrawn from the festival,” the statement said, adding: “The festival organizers and film producers informed us that this was not possible and they would move forward with the screening, over our objections.”

Glover and the others are the latest celebrities to call for a boycott of Israel, the ultra-right-wing Israeli news website Arutz Sheva 7 lamented.

One of the most prominent voices has been musician Roger Waters, who last week called on the Rolling Stones to cancel plans for their forthcoming Israel debut concert because of “Israel’s policy towards the Palestinians”.

In a statement, signed with surviving Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason, Waters reminded the Rolling Stones that “Playing Israel now is the moral equivalent of playing Sun City at the height of South African apartheid,” and that “Regardless of your intentions, crossing the picket line provides propaganda that the Israeli government will use in its attempts to whitewash the policies of its unjust and racist regime.”

“If you wouldn’t play Sun City, back in the day, as you, the Rolling Stones did not, then don’t play Tel Aviv until such time as freedom reigns for all and equal rights is the law of the land,” they concluded.

In December, Waters compared Israel to Nazi Germany, saying in an interview:“The situation in Israel/Palestine, with the occupation, the ethnic cleansing and the systematic racist apartheid Israeli regime is unacceptable.”

The world’s voices of truth will not be silenced but the Israeli apartheid freaks are intent on marching towards the precipice.

Let them march. Our voices can only get louder, and sooner or later the whole world will wise up to the truth.
